The National Citizen Service is for 16 and 17 year olds. It allows young people to take part in social action projects and build skills for work and life. We were chosen as a project by Myles, Matthew, Warren, Jasmine, Georgia, Faye, Alice and Ella, supervised by Stuart. 4 of the young people visited us on 2nd July and chatted to the members and the office staff about their plans for the Project Day on 9th July.
On the Project day all the members and staff enjoyed cake decorating, a quiz – we especially enjoyed the music round. The young people chatted to the members, played dominoes with them, helped serve lunch and called bingo. They had prepared 2 story boards about the Hoskyn Centre, one young lady wrote a poem that brought one of our members to tears. At the end of the day we were entertained with a dance performed by 2 of the NCS group. They also prepared a leaflet about The Hoskyn Centre which they took into town the next day and spoke to the general public about us and what we do.
All in all it was an excellent day, everyone enjoyed themselves. We would like to thank NCS for choosing us and preparing such a memorable day. We would like to wish all our NCS group all the best with their GCSE results and hope their plans for the future go well. A few of the group said they would like to keep in touch with us, we would be delighted to see any of them again.
